Design I
Course Description:
This foundation course introduces the fundamentals of two-dimensional design as it applies to fine arts and commercial contexts. Emphasis will be on basic color theory, elements of dynamic composition, vocabulary of visual arts and design, and development of visual conceptual skills. Students will use a variety of materials and techniques.

Student Works

Assignment:
Demonstrate your understanding of the principles of design and color theory by creating two abstract compositions. One uses warm colors , and one uses cool colors. Together, these works will form a class mosaic project.

Assignment:
Explore how colors communicate emotion, personality, and symbolism in design.
Assignment:
Explore rhythm through positive and negative space using the Japanese Notan method.
Assignment:
Create a 6 × 6 inch composition that demonstrates your understanding of design principles,
such as balance, rhythm, contrast, unity, and movement, using pattern as your main visual element.
